How online booking works for mobile service businesses
Travel time, service areas, minimum notice and deposits: the booking rules that matter when you go to the client.

Online booking was designed around a chair, a desk or a studio: the client comes to you, one after another. A mobile business is different in one important way. The time between bookings is not free time; it is the drive. Any booking tool that ignores that will stack jobs you cannot reach.
Buffers are the whole game
A buffer is time automatically kept clear before or after each booking. For a mobile business it is travel plus set-up, and it should be set generously. If your jobs are an hour and your drives are twenty minutes, a thirty-minute buffer means the client sees times that already leave room for the road. The cost is fewer bookable slots per day; the benefit is a day you can actually do.
Service area, said plainly
State the area you cover on the page itself, in words a local understands: suburbs, a radius, or "north of the river". Online booking tools rarely enforce geography, so the page has to. A sentence about what happens for jobs outside the area (a travel fee, or a no) saves a cancellation later.
Minimum notice and the horizon
Minimum notice stops a booking landing on tomorrow morning after you have planned the route. For most mobile businesses, a day's notice is the floor. A booking horizon, how far ahead people can book, stops you committing a Saturday three months out before you know what that month looks like.
Deposits protect the trip
A no-show costs a studio an hour. It costs a mobile business an hour, the fuel and the job you could have taken on the other side of town. A deposit, even a small one, changes a client's relationship to the booking: it is now theirs to keep. State it plainly: "A deposit holds your time and comes off the total."
What the day looks like
- Bookings arrive overnight with travel already accounted for.
- The address and any access notes are on the booking, not in a text thread.
- You confirm or move a job from your phone between stops.
- Payments on the day are recorded against the booking, so the week's takings are a list, not a reconstruction.
